NWRI was established in 1991 to address water supply and quality issues facing our nation through cooperative research. We are a California Joint Powers Agency (JPA) and 501c3 nonprofit corporation based in Fountain Valley, California. In conjunction with our JPA partners, we promote the protection, maintenance, and restoration of drinking water supplies as well as freshwater and marine environments.

Guidance on regulatory compliance issues unique to California. Through participation in the CalVal project, NWRI is contributing to guidance for uniform application of California's DPR regulations.​
